    Default Concealed carry restricted locations

After reading New York State Consolidated Laws Penal 400.00, which details the firearms laws of NY, it is my understanding that my license to carry permits me to carry anywhere except schools and places prohibited under a federal or local law. In other words, the only location that New York state prohibits is schools (and the five boroughs of NYC).

    Is this correct?

Federal law prohibits all federal buildings (including the post office) and national parks. Is this correct?

Are there any other locations off limits in NY state?

I'm a resident of Monroe County. According to the County Clerk, Monroe County parks are off-limits. Anyone from Monroe County know of any additional restrictions in our county?

    Thanks for any help.

Btw, I'm asking because I finally bought a holster for my XD45 (Crossbreed Supertuck) and I would like to verify that my understanding of our laws is correct.

There's already a thread on this somewhere here, but I can't find it.

that thread has some info specific to the city of Rochester.

edit: Monroe county's law states that you can not carry in any state, county or city park within monroe county.

    darkvibe,

Thanks for the info. I read the links provided. So it looks like schools, government buildings, and parks are off-limits in Monroe County (the info I received with my permit application indicated that parks are off-limits). I'm particularly interested in the parks restriction. Are parks outside Monroe County restricted? For example, Adirondacks, Letchworth, Alleghany?

The city/county parks restriction is only for Monroe county.

Alleghaney and Letchworth would be state law. I don't know if they are restricted or not. I think that would be in the environmental conservation part of the law?

I don't know of a specific law about the Adirondacks but you can hunt there. I've also had my permit checked by an environmental conservation officer and he was just kind of like "have a nice day". That was just south of old forge in the town of webb in a wilderness area which is an Adirondack Park unit of New York's Forest Preserve.

Ok I just spent my lunch break trying to find a state law that prohibits posession of a firearm in State Parks and could not find one. I did find information that hunting is allowed in some state parks though. If you can hunt there I don't see how there can be a law prohibiting firearms.

i typed monroe county laws into google and the parks law was like the second one down.

So... I see that the seneca park zoo is a county run park. There are no signs indicating that anywhere.

So, as far as the zoo goes, would that prohibit leaving it locked in the car while enjoying the zoo. I guess it would technically be on or about your person while you were driving in and out. What do you guys think, am I just being paranoid?

I'm not a lawyer but I think the parking lot is zoo property so it falls under the same rules as the zoo.

That's what I was thinking too. Just looking for another reasonable person's interpretation. Thanks.

I don't recall any signs at the zoo indicating that it's a county park. I'm not sure how a reasonable person visiting the zoo would know that it's part of the parks system and therefore off limits. I've been there lots of times and never noticed any signs saying no guns unless it's on a small sign somewhere.

The prohibition for state parks is by regulation rather than statute. 9 NYCRR 375.1(p)

Do they have signs up in your area or did one of the employees/managers say you can't? I've never seen a no-guns sign at any of the banks in Broome County, including HSBC.
