Default Are Hollow Point bullets illegal in NYS?

I know that Hollow Point bullets are illegal in NJ. What about in NYS? Can a person with a full carry permit have their weapon loaded with HP rounds?

    Yep. HP is fine.

    In a word YES!

HP bullets are no problem in NY! I am surprised (NOT) they are illegal in Jersey! We complain in NY, but it could be worse!

There was a "gun expert" at my last job that assured me they were completely illegal. I asked him how I managed to buy and use Hornady Critical Defense and he told me that they were OK. Apparently the "little red thingy" filling the hollow point made them legal. I laughed so hard I had to go blow my nose and dry my eyes.

Just so there's no confusion from my story: They are legal in NY.

IMHO, it's quite counterintuitive to ban HP ammunition. HP's are less likely to result in collateral damage. They're designed to cause damage to the intended target/threat, not over-penetrate, clipping a bystander or a neighbor's dog. JHP is labeled as "personal defense" ammo for a reason. By banning HP's in NJ, the moron politicians limit firearms owners to ball ammo and increase the risk of someone other than the intended target being wounded or killed.
