He said its a law he must enforce it. Just like Hitler's band of Nazi's. They were just enforcing the laws.

He can't be a real deep thinker. He says that he took an oath. Duh!

He will find out soon enough that the people that voted him into office have a different opinion than his. Election time can't come soon enough to vote these anti Constitutionalists out of office! I'm counting days until next November (kind of like waiting for Christmas )

What's his unemployment check gonna be worth?

He may want to enforce the Safe-Act but do his deputies support him?

That would be great, but is unlikely in Albany County. The problem is the sheriff is elected by all the citizens of the county, but most the population lives either in the city of Albany or adjacent villages like Colonie and Menands. Out of 300k residents, nearly 100k are inside city limits, and probably about half that number are just outside the city. Most law enforcement in the city and surrounding areas is done by city or village police, and the actual state owned areas in Albany have a heavy NYSP presence. Most of people voting for the Sheriff will likely never have any interaction with the department, but the candidate still has to cater to those voters.

Sounds suspiciously like Erie county, and we re-elected Tim Howard.

This is the thing that gets me the most. How the heck can anyone justify and unfair and unconstitutional law. Everyone agrees that segregation was wrong and that civil disobedience was required (at least now they do) but for some reason taking away a natural human right (self-defense) is all of a sudden ok. I'm sure his excuse will be I was just following orders.

Elected officials pander to their voter base. What is so hard to understand about that?

You cannot serve two masters, true when it was first said, and true today. Oath Keepers made their choice and the Sheriff of Albany made his.

Once again, oaths have NOTHING to do with it.
Elected officials pander to their voters.
The upstate Sheriffs who protest the SAFE Act are doing exactly what he is doing.
Silver and the NYC traitors are doing the same thing.

Politicians ONLY care about getting re-elected. Everything else is just the stuff that have to put up with between elections.

That is a very cynical view of things scosgt. Partially true, but cynical none the less, and in no way changes the truth in my statement. To some, their self interest is their master, and should not be in public service. Swearing to an oath is a very serious undertaking to many of us, I know it was for me.

You see, people like Feinstein and McCarthy call on other pols to have "political courage" and "do the right thing". Which means: "ignore your constituents and vote to ban guns" and we DECRY that nonsense.

But when the shoe is on the other foot, we want the Sheriff of a liberal County to "have political courage" and ignore SAFE at the expense of his job.

It just cuts both ways. They want to keep their job and salary. There is no such thing as political courage.

And frankly, we don't want them to have any courage. We want them to represent the people who voted for them and UPHOLD their rights. As a couple of traitors in Colorado recently found out.
