    Default NYS Pistol Permit Renewals

Does anyone have any info on the possibility of a proposal to have NYS pistol permit holders be required to renew every 5 years? I hadnt heard anything about it and then today I was reading the outdoor news and saw a small article that mentioned it.
Is this being considered? When? How much? I tried to decipher PL400 and didnt have alot of luck.

    Anyone?

I wonder how the state plans to handle all the certifications and paperwork - I dont think they are keeping up with the workload as it is. Doesnt go into much detail regarding certficiation - a class every 5 years? I dotn think it will fly. At least I hope it wont. Going to contact our senators office tomorrow.

Is it going to cost $100+ every 5 years? That would suck, I need to get a hold of my state senator too.

On the bright side, I dont think there are enough Dems in the Senate right now for it to pass. I ready they had lost a person or a seat (not sure) that would have given them a majority.

I want to know how the Upstate Dems stand on this. There's got to be a few of them that aren't rabidly in favor of more gun "control". My Democratic Assemblywoman has opposed all of these bills. Where's her counterparts in the State Senate?

Sen DeFransisco does not support the bill. He also indicated "S1598 has been in Codes Committee since 1/06/10, it never got out of Codes Committee in 2009."

I also asked about grandfathering of existing permit holders and he advised that the DCJS would be tasked to develop a renewal schedule for current license holders.

Hopefully this never gets out of Code Committee this year either, but you and all your friends should let your respective elected officials know that you dont support this and that you dont want them to support it either or you will speak with your vote next time they are up for re-election.

This is clearly to put the burden of proof (guilty until proven innocent on the gun owners) Isn't that unamerican? Holy crap america speak up, let the reps know they work for us and we, the silent majority are pissed.

I just emailed Senator Volker. I suggest everyone email their senator as well. If you like you can use the same letter I sent.....

    Dear Senator,
During this time of crisis it amazes me that rather than looking for solutions our state government is simply looking for funds. There is a bill before the senate (S1598A) that intends to do this. As a N.Y. State Pistol permit holder I am opposed to any renewal that would include additional (taxes) fees. I would hope that you would use your influence to defeat this bill as well and any other bill that would bring more undo burden upon the citizens of our state.
    Thank You!

You can find your senator here... http://www.nysenate.gov/senators

I can't make it any easier. We need to stand together!
