I just received my fingerprint cards from Florida in the mail. I was wondering if they will issue a Non Res permit if you have restrictions on your NY license?? I have a PA non res permit as well that has no restrictions and is a full carry permit. Thanks for any info.

I think the class we took for our NY permit is good because it is a pistol course given by a certified NRA instructor. No your PA no res permit is not good in Florida and Florida non res is no longer good in PA. That is why I got my PA permit, before you could just get Florida and PA was covered and that is no longer the case. PA did away with Florida Non Res permits this year I believe.

FL does not care if your permit is restricted and will issue you a permit even if it is. You are required to show training documents, but they will not take a class that you county required you to take. FL has really cracked down on NY, because many trainers issue NRA certificates for county classes (which they should not be) and FL thinks you completed the whole class including live fire. Because of this, FL has become very picky about what the take from NY residents as proof of training.

A PA permit is not good in FL unless you live in PA. PA recently made the same move and made the FL permits not valid in PA.

Yeah, your right. I forgot about that. I now remember getting my FL while waiting on NYS. But you have to have something like the NRA Basic Pistol course class which isn't a bad idea for anybody that is new.

FTWNY Thanks for the input much appreciated. I know you know what you are talking about as this is your living.

I have one question though, why is my Pistol Safety Class no good in Florida??

This was taken from the Florida website from the Application Section.

  • any National Rifle Association firearms safety or training course;

    This is what my Certificate says:

    Instructions in the Safe handling of Pistols

    Date

    (My name) did receive instructions in the safe handling of pistols and having satisfied the requirements of the undersigned NRA CERTIFIED FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR, is awarded this document as proof
    thereof.

    The name of instructor and his NRA INSTRUCTOR ID#

I did not capitalize these words in this to yell at you LOL that is how they appear in the document itself. Thank you again.

The reason why they do not accept most of the NRA certificates from NY, is because way too many instructors hand them out without people completing the full course. If you do turn it in, they have been asking people to also verify that they completed the whole class including the live fire portion of those NRA classes. They have become aware in the last couple of years that Instructors in NY are giving out the NRA certificates because a few counties require them, but they are also aware that 98% of all students never actually complete the actual NRA class

FL has also stopped taking the Hunter Safety from NY as well. This is what they have told us, it still seems that 1 out of 5 people still are able to use the hunters safety class from NY. They told us at this time they have only stopped taking the NY hunters safety and are still taking other states.
