I have to go with the cop on this one. If you act like an animal you get treated like an animal. I do not endorse abuse of authority, however in this case crack heads are a scourge and should be treated as such. There are more serious cases of police brutality and Im not so sure this really deserves the media attention its getting. Am I wrong?
This, in the totality of her life experience was the one incident that made her feel that she 'had nothing to live for'? Yeah right, this was the one incident that she thinks she can cash in on for a life time supply of crack! I like the way he picked her out of the unit and gently set her on the floor like a pan full of dung he didn't want to spill.
He didn't do anything wrong!!!!

It is most likely she is an EDP. If it were an OEF veteran or A'Stan vet maybe our collective perspective would be different. If it was your crackhead sister or mother your perspective would certainly be different - irrespective if or not she "deserved" to be treated like this. If it was you and your girlfriend down in FL for spring break, and she forgot to eat, then got drunk on an empty stomach, and presented the same behavior to the officer as this woman did, you would be rightfully outraged at her treatment.
One of the things that separate us from the "animals" we deal with occasionally or frequently is that we must never stoop to their level, lest we become dehumanized.
Do I cast blame on the officer? NOPE. But from the onset I knew this video would lead to a change in public policy, because dealing with the public in this manner is not acceptable. The homeless woman may have been lying, but she said she had never been leg-hog-tied before and could not use her legs.
The one thing we can take away from anyone worse than death is their humanity, as it also robs us of some of ours.

Yes, you are wrong, - because if this was an animal control officer taking a recalcitrant large household pet (think big dog) from point A to point B,and he dragged the animal in this manner, there would literally be a national outrage, spearheaded by PETA, and fueled by angry animal lovers all over the USA, many of whom place the value of their "Fluffykins" above the lives of other humans.
And you know what? There aint a DAMN thing wrong with valuing some of your possessions or pets above the lives of other humans. Some humans are already burning thru vast amounts of negative life equity.
I take it there are no crack heads in your family. There is however, someone you know and probably love that is afflicted with some degree of mental illness, or other type of illness (diabetes, seizures) that might present as mental illness. It is my fervent hope that they never meet an officer who decides to treat them like this officer does. He had a few options - none of which were employed. I ask you this: If there was a rewind function on life do you think he would use it, or do the very same exact thing, in the same exact way he moved this person the state entrusted to his care?
That really is the only test. Would you /me/he do the same thing in the same way now that this behavior has come to light? The answer is "no". In fact his actions have caused policy change most likely making such future actions an administrative violation. So not only can he NOT do this in the future, to do so would place his employment at jeopardy.
The more popular cases of authority abuse we see typically includes some element of adrenalin. A car or foot chase. A brief struggle or resistance. A dog pile of officers responding to "officer down" or "officer requests assistance". I don't want ANY OFFICER to treat ANY passively resisting subject like this, no matter if they are a black crack ho with 50 arrests and 55 convictions, or if its my sweet little grandma who forgot to eat, and her sugar levels have crashed thru the floor.
LHT.
