Are you referring to your justification letter written to the judge?

I don't remember what I used for my NYS permit, if anything, but for the majority of my out of state permits I simply wrote "all lawful puroses" and that worked fine.

To protect the most valuable thing(s) I have and prevent these things from becoming victimized and either seriously hurt or worse.

I would suggest not using the 2nd Amendment pitch. It went badly for an attorney near here when he tried that one.

Really? That is sad, every county differs, here in Monroe that has been used quite often and never a problem, unless of course something else flags the applicant in the back ground check.

For the CCW I kept it simple. "Personal Protection"

Worked for me, my wife, and my neighbor.
But Orleans County is a much more gun-friendly County than others.

I used "Hunting, Target/Competition, Personal Protection" on my app in Monroe. No issues.

Are you asking for the letter you have to write?

^ I included the same. Although it would probably do some good being a member at a gun club when you say competition and sport and such. The deputy that called me before he called my references asked me if I was.

Of course I'm kidding... about the doughnuts that is...

I'd like to nudge this thread. The question on Rockland county application is phrased as follows:

"A license is required for the following reason:"

Web site lists "target shooting, hunting, fishing, hiking and camping", and goes on to say that "you must state the specific reason you are applying on your application".

Can I say "For target shooting, hunting, hiking, camping and other lawful purposes", or is there a better way to answer this question?

My objectives are to 1. get my application approved, and 2. have as few restrictions as possible.

"All legal purposes" should cover it.

This is what I wrote on my application. I pt nothing about personal protection as I was told not to. I also wrote nice letter to the judge and my permit has no restrictions. I would say keep it as simple as possible on the application and any extra info you want the judge to know include in your letter.
