Does anyone know which PA county on the I-84 corridor closest to NY will be non-resident friendly? Since Pike is no longer an option I need to know which county is going to be most agreeable. TIA for all your help.

Columbia County (where I am) won't issue to non-residents, but I think the next county up - Lycoming - will, and it's not too far from the NY border. I'll check for you if you're interested.

Lycoming issues to non-residents if you have a NY unrestricted. You get the permit the same day. 43 W Third St. in Williamsport.

That is a shame about Pike County. I was fortunate in that I got mine in March and it was CRAZY submitting my paperwork. I got there 30 minutes early and there was already 7 people in line. It only took 3 weeks. What I do not understand, if you read the Sheriffs announcement is, why go there and apply for a permit and not go back to pick it up? Are some people so stupid that they fill out the paperwork knowing they would not pass a background check?

Congrats. Did you submit your application with an unrestricted NY or was it a restricted NY permit?

They won't process an application with a restricted permit.

Took the ride out to Centre County today. 10 minute turn around on the permit. Got there just before their lunchtime ended at 1pm, so I was taken care of right away. Very pleasant experience.

The drive was also pretty nice for the scenery. Best stretches were on I-84 from Middletown, NY out to Scranton,PA and the again on I-80 from south of Wilkes-Barre out to Bellafonte. Fall foliage on the mountains combined with upper seventies weather made me wish I had taken my topless Jeep instead of the cruiser.

So you were able to apply and receive your permit in one trip to Centre County? I was going to go to Wayne, but if I can do it in one trip, I will go to Centre instead.

Yes. You go in and fill out the single, one sided application form. Hand that and a copy of your NYS permit, NYS Driver license and $20 cash or check. They run a NICS check on you, take your picture and then make the card. Pretty simple.

Depending on where in OC you are (i'm on the far east side, but I have a lead foot, lol), you're looking at 3.5 hours one way to Bellafonte,PA.

So you can go to centre county with a restricted NYS permit and get a non-resident PA permit? I have family there and they have lots of land. I'd love to be able to bring my pistol there.

You can bring your pistol there anyway...In Pa. anyone legally able to own a pistol in their home state can OPEN carry it in Pa. You do not need a Pa. permit to do so, only to carry concealed.

Actually you do need a permit to carry in a vehicle, carry concealed, and to carry conceal or open carry in a city of the first class (Philadelphia). I would not recommend open carrying in Philly. Most LEOs there are uneducated the laws on open carry in PA.
