    Default NY Firearms Forum Rules

Please take the time to read the rules for our forums.

We the staff are not here to over Moderate the forums; we are simply here to enforce the rules in the interest of keeping a well organized forum that provides the best possible information and atmosphere for our users. Failure to abide by the rules can and will result in a ban from the forums. We the staff reserve the right to ban any member at any time without providing reason.

    1. No posts including or linking to racism, porn, illegal or copyrighted material (“warez”, copyrighted media, etc…)

No Racism: This has always been the first rule of this site. Consider this your only warning that it will not be tolerated. It doesn't matter if it's a joke or not, there is no place for it on this site. Anyone posting any racist content will be banned without warning.

No illegal activity: NYFirearms.com is and has always been a site for the discussion of all aspects of the legal ownership and use of firearms. The key word there is legal. There is no discussion of any illegal activities permitted on the forum. Any posts advocating or stating the intent to break the law, incriminating yourself or another member, or exposing us to any unnecessary legal liability will be deleted and the user will be banned without warning. Consider this your fair and only warning. Keep all posts legal.

When posting copyrighted media such as News articles from other web sources, do not post/paste an entire article from another website. Doing so may violate the copyright of the source material. Article posting should include only a link and a brief summary and/or a relevant quoted paragraph, in addition to the poster's own personal comments

    2. The use of profanity is not allowed. This includes censor dodging by using symbols in place of letters. Signatures, avatars and posts must be “Work Safe”. Links to content not safe for children or the workplace must include a warning in the thread title or adjacent to the link in a post. The swear filter is not an invitation to use profanity; just don't do it.

    3. No “Cop Bashing”. If you wish to discuss a specific incident please do. Posts making generalizations defamatory to law enforcement or any other profession or group of people will not be tolerated.

    4. No Threats, whether it be bodily harm, personal property or threatening to sue someone.

    5. No fighting - debates are interesting; fights are childish. This includes name calling and insults.

    6. Stay on Topic – Off topic posts will be deleted.

    7. Use descriptive thread titles when starting new threads - this helps avoid multiple reposts of the same topic. Titles should reflect what the thread is actually about. Titles like "You gotta read this!!!" or "Political BS" are NOT descriptive and may be closed or deleted without notice.

    8. Leave moderating to the site staff – If you feel the need to report a post that violates these rules, use the “report post” feature and refrain from getting into an altercation with the member. The report port feature is the small grey triangle in the bottom left of all posts.

    9. No Spam – if you want to promote a business, Contact Us about becoming a site sponsor. This includes, but is not limited to, advertising in your signature, new threads, in replies to posts or in your avatar.

    10. Post in the proper forum. This includes "For Sale" posts outside of the Marketplace. If you have something for sale, use the For Sale section to post your item after you have made the required 50 posts.

    11. Posting negative issues regarding the site/staff is strictly forbidden and will result in immediate banning without a warning. If you have a problem with the site/staff, we want to hear it. Either PM a member of the staff or send us an email. We will discuss the issue with you personally and if we feel it is something that needs to be posted WE will do so.

    12. Only one account per person. There is no reason to have multiple user names/accounts. If you need your current user name changed, contact the staff and if we determine valid reason we will change it for you. If a user is found to be using multiple accounts the staff will ban those accounts without notice.

    13. Posts must be in English.

    14. All users must keep their profiles complete and accurate, including age and location (At least county specific if you don’t want to list your city). This includes a working email address.

The following rules apply to all of the For Sale and Wanted** forums.

    1. You must have at least 50 posts on the forum before making a for sale thread. If you make a bunch of useless posts to increase your post count all of your posts will be deleted and you will be banned from the site without warning.
** You may post in the Wanted section with fewer than 50 posts.

    2. Do not post (or ask for) any illegal items for sale, including but not limited to (this means the list can change and even if something isn't listed here it may still get you banned )
    a. Non-SAFE compliant AR-15 style firearms or anything else that falls under the NY State 'Assault Weapon' ban. This includes but isn't limited to firearms with features such as a detachable magazine, threaded barrel, pistol grip, etc.
    c. Handguns with threaded barrels
    d. Magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds
(BREAKING THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN AN IMMEDIATE TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT BAN)

    3. MUST HAVES: Face to Face sales of firearms MUST include a potential FFL you can use to have the required NICS check performed along with any additional cost to the new owner. All items MUST include an asking price. If it is an item for trade, an approximate value or list of items that you would trade for is required. Your listing MUST also indicate if you are offering shipping on your item. If you want people to email you, you must leave contact information posted in your thread as users cannot email you directly through the forum

Any listings without required information included will be removed without notice.

    4. No "thread crapping" or unnecessary comments in marketplace listings. Acceptable posts might be "Pm sent" or "I'll take it" or any direct question to the seller to which the answer might be of benefit to all prospective buyers. If your post does not meet these criteria, DO NOT post in the thread or you risk losing access to the marketplace sections of the forum without notice.

This includes making public offers on price and trades. Please PM ALL offers, whether it be a dollar amount or a trade.

    5. Make sure the location listed in your profile is up to date /or/ remember to list your approximate location in the marketplace listing.

    6. Do not "bump" your thread to the top of the forum more than once every 3 days.

    7. If your item has sold please edit the thread prefix to "Done:" To do this, edit your original post and then click "go advanced" to get to the prefix editor. If more than 30 days have passed you cannot edit your thread. In this case Please PM a moderator or use the report function on the post.

    8. If an item has sold, do not delete the text or title of the listing so returning users who come back looking for it can find it and iTrader feedback/rating can be established.

    9. Follow all state, federal and local laws and regulations regarding the sale of firearms.

    10. Use a descriptive title. "Rifle for sale" is not descriptive. "26" barrel Remington 700 in .308" is descriptive. Failure to use a descriptive listing title may result in it's removal without further notice.

    11. Failure to complete a sale/trade/purchase once an agreement between buyer and seller is established may result in loss of access to the marketplace sections of the forum. It may also result in a temporary or permanent ban from all of the forums. We understand things can happen but we also intend to protect our members as best we can from any disreputable persons or practice. Do not commit to any deal that you do not intend to follow through with to completion.

    12. All items listed in the marketplace for sale must be personally owned items by individual sellers, not businesses. Commercial or Dealer sales are not allowed in marketplace by those without Vendor status. If you wish to list commercial sales or advertise your business or wares you must first contact an admin or contact us through the contact form for information about becoming a Vendor / Site sponsor.

    13. NYFirearms.com does not take any responsibility for any items bought or sold on the forum. It is up to you to research price, describe items accurately and work out all transactions. With that said, if you are cheated please bring it immediately to the attention of a Moderator or Admin either via PM or using the report post function with a detailed description of what happened.

    Notice to everyone....

Please keep your email address in your profile current. With the recent upgrade some important information was sent out and was not received by users due to them having outdated email addresses in their profile.

NYFirearms.com will not share your email address with anyone.

I made a slight update to the rules for clarification.

Over time we've gotten some reports of users with less than 50 posts making threads in the Wanted section of the marketplace. As the rules were listed, these reports were technically correct. We do however allow users under 50 posts to post in the Wanted section. The <50 post limit is set in the software to not allow posts in the other marketplace 'for sale' sections. So, I've updated the rules to reflect the correct and current policy.

    Minor rules updates/adjustments

Rule #1 - Update reflects site policy on posted articles from other web sources
Added content is marked here in color for clarification.

    1. No posts including or linking to racism, porn or illegal/copyrighted material (“warez”, copyrighted media, etc…)
1.a When posting copyrighted media, do not post/paste an entire article from another website or other media source. Doing so may violate the copyright of the source material. Article posting should include only a link and a brief summary and/or a relevant quoted paragraph.
Of course the poster's personal commments should be included as well. The rule refers only to the copyrighted material itself.

Rule (inserted as) #7 - Descriptive thread titles. This may have not been clear as this rule was outlined in a separate sticky thread from the core ruleset. The sticky has been removed and the rule added to core rules.

    7. Use descriptive thread titles when starting new threads - this helps avoid multiple reposts of the same topic. Titles should reflect what the thread is actually about. Titles like "You gotta read this!!!" or "Political BS" are NOT descriptive and may be closed or deleted without notice.
Marketplace rules listed in the core ruleset now are correctly matched with those listed in the marketplace itself. Very minor adjustments.

Some other slight changes. Rule #1 has now been expanded to include clear explanations/descriptions of it's other aspects as well. The rules haven't changed; they're just being shuffled around a little for optimization and explained in more detail in a single location.

This was done to clean up several of the potentially redundant 'sticky' threads in the Announcements and Site help subforum to make it more accessible without having to scroll down through quite so many stickies that essentially all said this same thing, "Be good. Being bad gets you banned." ..heh
