    Default Finally!!!!

Still a lot of sorting and organizing to do, but I figure that will happen as I need and use things along the way, making things more efficient in the end. The basic tools needed are at hand!!! For you down staters, the gun on the bench is to be a 'Hudson Valley' flintlock fowling gun. A lot of rolly-rolly Dutch influence, not something I was too familiar with at the onset, but that's part of the fun, research a understanding how it applies to what you are trying to achieve. My mother always said we had antecedent's that owned property near West Point, so that's my connection! I inlet the barrel and roughed out the stock about six months ago, and it sure does feel good to be back at it!!!

A friend has a Hudson Valley Fowler, and is rests surprisingly easy on the shoulder. The buttstock is huge, and looks cumbersome, but isn't at all.

You're exactly right Clancey!! They do have what I call a roly-poly look about them, but they hold sweet and that massive butt counters perfectly, allowing them to swing like an Ithica feather-weight! Those old boys knew what they were doing!!! I only hope I can properly represent what they had already achieved. I'm also carving out a couple of basswood decoy's based on the earliest know originals from that area. Maybe someday I can haul all this junk down to the Hudson Valley and re-create what my ancestors most probably partook in. One of the most beautiful places on God's green earth.

Love to hear more about local influenced guns.

Looking to build a left handed marshall rifle possibly. Widdlin my own stock too.

Something mohawk valley or hudson valley influence. Maybe 45 cal to keep powder consumption on the low.

Really nice shop and bench by the way. Have fun with the build.

That Edward marshal gun is a beauty to hold, very robust!! I have made a couple Moravian (Christians Spring) type guns also very robust and very comfortable to shoot, even with the stoutest loads.
Most of the New York guns of note are cap locks, not to say their wasn't a few smiths in the Mowhawk area making flintlock rifles during that earlier period, I just haven't found any information on that. If you do find something please let me know!!!!!

Beautiful rifle Robin. One of my not so smart moves was selling my Jaeger rifle.
