    Default Home Carry

So, I own an M&P 9FS, Shield and Bodyguard very.380. Which of these would seem best for everyday "home-carry" ? (I'm thinking IWB considering guests, answering door and all).

I have a 7 year old son who knows I have FA's and I've had talks with. All are stored in separate gunvault QA safes. But now I'm considering home-carry.

Yes, I am allowed to carry however I choose (inside) my property. NYS does not allow OWB carry. As for carrying concealed indoors its a "personal" preference.

Why do you say that NYS doesn't allow OWB carry?

It just has to be concealed. If you're wearing a long, heavy coat and you can't see the firearm, no reason it can't be OWB.

No. "Concealed" refers to when you are out in public.

Some will argue that "public view" is more accurate - meaning, you might catch some slack for, say, a neighbor seeing you carrying on your property and calling the police. I agree that you may "catch some slack," but not to the point of being arrested/charged with something.

Your setting will also have an impact on this. In the rural areas of the state, no one bats an eye at open carry in actual public. In the suburbs of Westchester, OCing while mowing will probably get you some attention from the civil servants.

I would recommend the biggest gun your comfortable with. So the mp. As for carrying options you can carry anyway you like as long as the gun is concealed. Does it have to be concealed on your own property I don't think so. Is it a good idea hell yes. You will likely get a visit from a cop if your walking around with a gun exposed. Not a good idea.

I hear you. Its a shame u would have to conceal on your own outdoor property.
i was looking fwd to finally relaxing in my own backyard with a tv out there not having to worry carrying OWB.
might have to look for a home with no neighbors near by i guess lol.

I open carry a lot, a handgun on the hip draws very little attention, while a semi in a good shoulder holster does draw more attention, but no remarks.

I like the shoulder set up if I will be driving, easier access to the gun if the need arises.

Do what ever you feel comfortable with.

Hey guys thanks for all of your replies. Thought I'd clarify the OWB thing. Mikepkf's original question (top of the thread) was: "why carry IWB in your own home? with that being said are you allowed to carry OWB on your property outside your home?" To which my answer was: "Yes, I am allowed to carry however I choose (inside) my property. NYS does not allow OWB carry. As for carrying concealed indoors its a "personal" preference." Meaning-- I carry IWB indoors by preference (I wouldn't want to draw unnecessary attention to my firearm by guests, expected or unexpected, and in the event of a "situation" I prefer the advantaged of being concealed). Concerning the OWB thing, I was saying you can not "open carry outside-- even on your property" in NY UNLESS the firearm is OWB and "concealed". On'/Off Property. Only Indoors on your property does concealment "not" apply.

Yes-- IF you're outdoors under ANY circumstances (even on your own property) in NY your firearm *must be concealed. You may wear an OWB outdoors so long as the firearm is *still concealed.

No. You are confusing possession with carrying. When on private property, you are not carrying, you are possessing.

That said, the mental image of you at a range shooting from concealment has me snickering.

OWB is more comfortable and plenty “ concealable for Home Cary. Smallest I go is a Glock 27. I’m lucky to be in a rural area and grew up with a 100 yard range out our garage. No one bats an eye if I open carry or even shoot in my yard. 40 acre back yard.
