Not sure if it has ever happened, but a 'gravity knife; conviction could be argued under the 2nd Ammendment -- 'the right to keep and bear arms'. ?The definition of 'arms' does not limit itself to firearms. Just saying -- any 'law involved' citizens here have any input.

If there's a reason for this, it's probably because of the vast number of minorities that are arrested in NYC for "gravity" knife posession. They were just given carte blanche to piss on the ground, whether it's someone else's property or not.

It's the NYS Assembly, remember. If upstate is included in this it's only because they have to.

Remember the NY definition of gravity knife is any knife that can be opened with one hand....... a buck 110 is a gravity knife because if you hold the blade and flick it, it will open!
Maybe if this law passes we will be allowed to own guns in about 200 years! O wait they passed a bill to out law machetes!

And lets not forget the made up law of a knife being longer than 4 fingers being illegal. Written by no one but enforced by the NY KGB

Why gravity knives? I would rather have OTF knives or auto openers. Why not just make all knives legal?

NYPD officers like to perform a little song and dance to get a "collar." (I wish I was joking.)

They will actually stand up on the curb, grip the handle of the knife in question, jump high off the curb, and as they come down and hit pavement, try and flick open the blade. If it opens, "collar", gravity knife.

Despicable, and nothing to do with the law, but, you know, NYC...

If Sheldon Silver was still in power this bill would never have made it out of committee unless there was a campaign donation dropped off by some advocate group pushing for it's passage.
It still has to make it to the floor depending on what the Senate does with it.

Banning knives is not a violation of 2A, guys. The founders had no way to know that knives could become so small and portable back when the 2A was written.

Same with double-edged knives. Such technology did not exist prior to the 1970s; no one had ever conceived that it was even possible to sharpen both sides of a knife or sword, never mind how to actually do it. Even the Japanese, with their mighty Katana, were limited to single edges, and any of their craftsmen who ever tried sharpening a 2nd edge inevitably died, or lost ALL of their limbs, in the process. TWO edges is nearly impossible! Hence, banning it is not a violation of 2A.

True Story.

Ummmmmmm, just no! Hope you're joking! Surely you jest...

Double edged knives have been around for quite some time fella! And a knife, dagger, sword is an "ARM" or weapon unless you're confused. It is most certainly without any doubt a 2A issue as it relates direct to personal defense!

You know little of weapon history, sorry! And the Japanese sword is a poor example, even though it (katana) was one of the finest slicing weapons ever created! Daggers, with both sides edged and sharpened have been around for a very, very long time! The Japanese version of a double edged sword was called a Tsurugi ; ). If needed I can probably dig up some pics of 1500 BC double edged weapons :D
