Default Semi-auto rifle in State Forest

What is the legality of firing a Ruger PC carbine on New York State Forest land for recreational target shooting? I know target shooting is allowed in this particular forest, but would the carbine be legal? I'm mostly wondering in terms of magazine capacity.

as long as its not posted against shooting in that location, and you posses a valid hunting license it should be perfectly legit.

Magazine capacity only refers to hunting as far as I know.

Ok, I wasn't sure because the wording is weird. The environmental law refers to 5+1 capacity semi-auto, and says no one except law enforcement "shall use in hunting or possess...for any other purpose" a firearm with a larger capacity. Kind of sounds like it is more broad than just hunting.

Wondering if I'm reading too far into things, or if I need a 5 round magazine. Or, maybe I can't use the carbine at all, since although I may use a 5 round mag, it can still accept something larger?

    Thoughts?

Keep it loaded at 7 rounds just to be safe (As per SAFE act.
5 + 1 pertains to big game hunting.
