I am currently shooting 2 pyrodex pellets out of my tc impact. I am using a 300 gr bullet and was looking for a little more punch. I attempted to find the 50/30 pyrodex pellets but the are not to be found on this planet (if you find them no one will ship them). MY only other option seems to be using 3 pellets. I know the gun can handle it but will 150 gr of powder actually burn in a 26" barrel????? its a lot of powder. this keeps me awake at night.
try shooting granular pyrodex or triple 7... i have found better accuracy with it, my typical load is 120 grains and a 250 grain powerbelt... at 100yds i can maintain a 3" , 3 shot group with iron sights, using a TC triumph
I have always found 2 pellets to be plenty. But if you want to use just a little more powder, why not use loose powder instead of pellets? Make a 105 grain load or 115 or 125....no need to go all the way to 150 grains.
I've shot 150 grains of loose powder with a 300 grain powerbelt platinum for elk and results were good out to 200 yards. For deer I don't bother with pellets and settled at 110 grains and 250 grain aerolite powerbelt. Once in speed loaders the pellets are no Easier or faster to reload. And you can fine tune your charge.
Your statement is probably true with modern muzzleloaders(?), I don't know much about them. Shooting my traditional M/L's with patch and round ball, I can shoot all day without wiping between shots. When I clean up at the end of a shooting session the bore is no more fouled than if I had fired off one or two shots. 'Traditional' M/L's are great range guns!!!!

I have two boxes of pellets. Well box n a half. Have to use them up before I try something else. Very frustrating when you can't go out to a store.....find what you need...and just buy it. I am betting those 30 gr pellets are my ticket. Wheter its 110gr or 130 gr. I don't want to waste tbe pelets I have and switch too loose even though I have that as well. Anyone want to buy some 30 gr pellets for me????????

Steve if you have loose pyrodex powder you have lots of other options for building your load. You can even use the pellets you have. Why dont you just load one or two pellets and whatever amount of loose powder to make the charge you want? 50 pellet + 50 pellet + 10 loose = 110 grains total. 50+50+20 loose = 120 grains. Why jump all the way to 150?
Or just buy 777 pellets. It has about 20% more power than Pyrodex so 2 50 grain 777 pellets is about the same as 120 grains of Pyrodex. WHy use up everything you have before getting more? What if the new thing doesn't work well? Dont you want some of the old in reserve?
I do with my Encore. An old timer told me to look for unburnt powder in the snow in front of me after a shot and if there is to drop down. That was when I first started with ML's. I've never seen any. I've honestly never shot the difference between 100g and 150g to see what the difference was on paper. I've been wicked happy with it as is. Maybe I'll try it this year.
3 777 pellets for me in my Remington 700 ml. IIRC I am getting around 2100 fps using 250 gr. shockwave bullets.
I have taken deer out to 230ish yards with this combo and I am very happy with the way it shoots. used to hunt with it all season long before centerfire rifles were allowed and have taken a lot of deer with it.
This year was my first season with 777 but finding myself very happy with it. Still haven't tried it in rifle configuration with the 777, it's only had Pyrodex. This year has been 100g 777 in a bit shorter barrel. Should borrow my uncle's chronograph to see what it's doing. I'll spend more time with it this spring.
I can't ship powder but I have 30 gr. 777 & Pyrodex. Just keep looking at all your local gun shops.
I stock them because I think a lot more people use muzzleloaders in Tompkins County because its that or shotgun only. A lot of my customers use a ML from the opening day of season all the way through ML season.
My CVA Optima Pro can shoot 150 grains, but the groups open up and there is a lot of un-burned powder left in the barrel. I found my rifles sweet spot was a 130 grain load 50+50+30 pellets with a 200 Grain Platinum Aerotip.
Savage ML-10 designed for smokeless powder makes this all moot, as a result, us who bought guns early are realizing 110% increase in valuation, However performance is so good, no one would ever sell or go back to any black powder load. The manual does not even consider it. I should just hunt all the regular season with this gun it is so good.
The Savage ML-10's were discontinued, and if you want to get one now you're going to pay a serious markup. I just looked around at several sites and they're going for as much as $1,200.00!
No Thanks. I'll take my $400.00 total investment in my CVA Optima Pro and Bushnell Scope and can easily take any Big Game down out to 250 Yards. I'll deal with the extra cleaning and save the $800.00 difference!
Friend killed plenty of deer with a 300 grain bullet and 2 pellets of 777. I use white hots myself. No problem with accuracy.
