    Default superbowl food/recipes thread

    What's everyone making?

Going to try bacon wrapped cocktail wieners with brown sugar for first time.

    • 1 pound sliced bacon, cut into thirds
    • 1 (14 ounce) package beef cocktail wieners

    • 3/4 cup brown sugar, or to taste

Check All Add to Shopping List
    Directions

    1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
    2. Refrigerate 2/3 of the bacon until needed. It is easier to wrap the wieners with cold bacon. Wrap each cocktail wiener with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick. Place on a large baking sheet. Sprinkle brown sugar generously over all.
    3. Bake for 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until the sugar is bubbly. To serve, place the wieners in a slow cooker and keep on the low setting.

Really want to make garlic parmesan wings for my friend who is hooked on them at a local bar. Anyone have a recipe like this? It's a wet recipe, very saucy. She likes to dunk quesadilla in the sauce.

    Must have wings...
    These are pretty good.

    You'll need
1 quart vegetable oil for deep frying
24 chicken wings, tips removed and wings cut in half at joint
    4 tablespoons butter
    1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
5 tablespoons Frank's hot pepper sauce
    salt and pepper to taste

    Directions

Heat the oil In a large skillet or deep fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Deep fry chicken wings in oil until done, about 10 minutes. Remove chicken from skillet or deep fryer and drain on paper towels.
Melt the butter in a large skillet. Stir in the vinegar and hot pepper sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add cooked chicken to sauce and mix well.

We always make awesome snack "kebabs."

    On a toothpick:
Rolled up piece of lunch meat (Roast beef, turkey , bologna, etc.)
Piece of SHARP cheddar. (My favorite. I like Cabot hunter's cheese.)
    Pineapple chunk. (Adds awesome sweetness.)
    Pickled onion. (Adds sourness.)

You can make tons of these on the cheap and they ROCK!

Looking at recipes for wings it's pretty obvious that mostly people aren't too concerned about the fat content and such. But, if you want to reduce it a little bit, you can steam the wings and then bake them instead of deep frying. Takes a little longer, and not quite as crispy. But you can still get a decent crust.

Oh man, I doubt anyone will be interested in what I'm making since I eat paleo (no processed foods, dairy, grains, etc.) but here are the recipes I've been considering... Not sure what all I'll end up making yet. Going to have to experiment a little and see what actually tastes good. Paleo problems...

That reminds me, I almost forgot the Blue Cheese !!!
    Here's the recipe...

    Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce:
    1/2 cup sour cream
    1/4 cup heavy cream
    8 ounces blue cheese
1 teaspoon hot red pepper sauce
    1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire
    1/2 teaspoon salt

The wife usually makes a couple dips that we have with sliced up baguettes and/or tortilla chips.

    Taco Dip
Take a 9" round or square pyrex
Spread cream cheese about 1/2" thick over the bottom of the pan
Take canned (or homemade) chili, and add 1/2" or 3/4" layer of that
    Cover with shredded taco cheese.
Microwave or bake long enough to melt the cheese

    Buffalo chicken dip
    1 brick cream cheese
    2 cans shredded chicken
Your favorite buffalo sauce to taste (Texas Pete's is the best, but Top's is the only local store that carries it)

Add all the ingredients to a crock pot, and turn on medium/high. Stir every 10 or 15 minutes until the cream cheese is melted a bit and mixed around with everything.

A dozen Oysters each, cocktail sauce with horse radish added, a good bottle of vodka, lemon quartered.

Instructions: 1/4 teaspoon of sauce on the oyster, squeeze lemon over it, suck it up, drink shot of vodka.

Hint; have wife or GF nearby if touchdown gets you too excited.

    Thank you.

I forgot to mention my garbage bread. Have to use a fresh dough, I use 1 from a bakery because (go ahead and laugh) I haven't ever been satisfied with my homemade doughs. Anyhow
Load that dough up with slices of ham, pepperoni, hard salami, mozz cheeze, repeat the meats, cheddar cheese, and jalepeno peppers. Bake for 28-30 minutes at 360 degrees. Insanely yum. When you cut it open and all that grease comes pouring out soaking the dough in that tasty goodness omg. I need to go make one now.

I do something similar. Homemade ground meat (venison, pork, hamburger), spicy Italian sausage, mozz and cheddar cheese, a little black pepper, and Texas Pete's buffalo sauce. Good stuff! I'll have to try adding some jalapenos next time.

I've had that before. It's pretty good. Salty Weiner and Bacon + Sweet Brown Sugar is a winning combo in my books.

I don't like Garlic so I stay away from recipes that include "garlic" in their name. Can't help there.

    You must be a vampire.

Also, Enigma, I'm going to have to try those wings and blue cheese dip. I've never tried making my own wings before, but I'll give it a shot some time.

I'd avoid Los Angeles Steak House: Add Garlic to Your Restaurant Experience . You can smell the garlic from blocks away.

For anyone else. I highly recommend it!

A friend makes this for us at parties and is bringing it - always a hit.

I'm also making a batch of gumbo for an 'actual meal' along with a 7 layered dip, the usual wings/veggies, and I was thinking of some other type of finger food which I was searching for ideas.
