Hi I am new to the buffalo area. I am not sure what is public around here to waterfowl hunt. A lot of people told me about the swamps but everything I read says you have to enter a lottery? Any information would help.
There are many areas you can hunt around here. Beaver island, buckhorn state park, and spicer creek in grand island has public hunting. The blinds you need to enter the lottery for. Joseph Davis State Park you can hunt. Also many areas of the tonawanda wildlife management areas and Iroquois that’s out in the same area is good duck and goose hunting. Many people hunt these swamps and as far as I know no lottery is needed. I was pheasant hunting and many waterfowl flew overhead and many shots going off.
look at areas mentioned in Erie county, niagara county, genesee and Orleans counties.
if you see a posted sign with one of those DEC "ASK" stickers you could always contact that land owner & ask too.
I put those on some of the posted signs on my proprieties's road frontage but I don't want hunters (because I already have people hunt my land occasionally besides me), but don't mind people hiking it.
